Textiles

Much of our textile collection was designed for British homes between about 1880 and the 1960s. Many textiles were produced for well-known manufacturers such as Liberty & Co and Sandersons. We have examples of both printed and woven furnishing fabrics and some examples of dress fabrics.

Many of MoDA’s textiles are part of the Silver Studio Collection. Some were designed by the Silver Studio itself, while others were collected by employees of the Studio as reference. Many were produced for well-known manufacturers such as Liberty & Co and Sandersons.

We have examples of both printed and woven furnishing fabrics and some examples of dress fabrics.

Over the years we have also collected many examples of ‘ordinary’ domestic textiles for the Domestic Design Collection. Many of these are by anonymous designers. But we also have textiles by well-known mid-century designers including Enid Marx, Lucienne Day, Marion Mahler, Sylvia Chalmers, Barbara Brown, John Piper, and Phyllis Barron.
