MoDA’s Closure, FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about what happens next

What if I want to visit?

If you have previously visited for research purposes and would like to come again to complete your research please get in touch via email moda@mdx.ac.uk and we will do our best to fit you in, ideally before the end of 2023. We can’t accept appointments for ‘new’ research, but we want to support people to complete an ongoing research project where that is possible.

We won’t be able to accept requests for individual visits, group visits, student sessions, or any other kind of public access from October 2023, as staff will be busy with the job of dispersing the collections.

What about picture library requests?

We would like to support those who require the provision of images relating to their research or work that has already begun.  We can’t accept requests for new image research, but MoDA staff would like to assist as best we can with requests that are part of ongoing conversations. Please get in touch via email moda@mdx.ac.uk as soon as possible. We are looking at how we can honour the agreements already made and we will be in touch with further guidance in due course.

What’s happening to staff?

MoDA’s staff continue to be employed at the moment while we disperse the collections and carry out all the other wrapping-up tasks associated with closing a museum. But we will ultimately be made redundant. Please be aware that this is a difficult time for staff personally, and while we will do our best to respond to queries, we may not be able to do so as quickly as usual.

What about MoDA’s legacy as an institution?

We’re very proud of the many books, articles, exhibition catalogues, reports and other publications that have been based on, or inspired by, MoDA’s collections, or which have mentioned them in some way over the years. We’ve compiled a list of everything here https://moda.mdx.ac.uk/closure-publications/. If you think we’ve missed something off please let us know by emailing moda@mdx.ac.uk.
