More details

The Times Furnishing Company was a national company selling furniture on hire purchase to new homeowners. This brochure shows schemes for furnishing a one room flat, which would have been aimed at city dwellers, mainly in London where space was such a problem. As they said: 'The one room flat is ideal for a business man or woman providing, of course, it is well planned and wisely furnished.' Their scheme is described as having cream walls and woodwork, a carpet several shades deeper, black oak furniture with natural oak handles and a gaily-striped coverlet on the divan. Everything was 'free from embellishments that are inclined to irritate.'
