More details

This booklet, entitled ‘Take Time To Be Young’ was produced for Good Housekeeping magazine in about 1955. By the 1950, only the very wealthy employed domestic servants. In middle-class British homes, the housewife was responsible for the daily work of the house. As a result, consumers began to integrate labour-saving appliances such as washing machines and electric kettles into kitchens to make housework easier. This booklet advocates the use of new household appliances, particularly vacuum cleaners. The slogan ‘take time to be young’ emphasises the amount of time housewives could save by using these appliances.
