One of a series of sketch designs for silk brocades designed by Arthur Silver of the Silver Studio for the wedding dress of Princess Mary ("May") of Teck. Mary married Prince George, Duke of York, the future George V, in 1893. The design features a vertical border of roses and thistles (patriotic symbols respectively of England and Scotland), as part of the symbolism of the royal wedding.
