More details

Katagami stencil with a background design of kikko (linked hexagons) containing patterning imitating a tie dye technique - kumo shibori . Kikko patterning is auspicious for longevity because of its resemblance to turtle shell. Over the top of this design is a scatter of stylised hemp leaves (asa no ha ) which are emblematic of strong growth and sometimes depicted on babies' and children's clothing in this association. This stencil forms a pair with K3.2 with the two stencils contributing different detail to the finished design. This stencil is of the chūban size class (determined by the repeat length).
