More details

Katagami stencil with an all-over design of sayagata (linked swastikas), a Buddhist auspicious emblem and a symbol of virtue in the Japanese tradition. The stripe technique used on this stencil is gata tsuri , which creates a soft outline effect when dyed. Marking in ink on the stencil suggests that this stencil is one of a pair which are overlaid to make up the full design. This stencil is of the chūban size class (determined by the repeat length).
