More details

Katagami stencil with a design of undulating lozenges containing patterning of pine needles and seigaiha (blue ocean waves). Pine needles are associated with fidelity since they remain in pairs after falling. Seigaiha are associated with a wish for calm days ahead. Part of this design was replicated in a Silver Studio design number SD5833b for a woven textile dated 1919. This stencil is of the chūban size class (determined by the repeat length).
