More details

Katagami stencil with a design of mandarin orange sprigs, a motif associated with early summer. The small circular motifs and the outlining style imitate tie dye and stitch resist techniques (kumo shibori and ori-nui shibori ). Tie bars are used to hold the stencil structure, these would be covered over by paste applied by hand or through a second stencil so would not appear on the printed textile. This stencil is of the koban size class (determined by the repeat length).
