More details

Katagami stencil with a design of kikko (hexagonal grid) contaning small flower heads with willow stems trailing across and roundels containing cherry blossom another flower and foliage in the form of a family crest. Willow is often represented on bridal garments as an emblem of a happy married life. Kikko are auspicious for longevity due to their resemblance to turtle shell. Both willow and cherry blossom are representative of late Spring. A fine mesh of supporting threads made of silk is sandwiched between two layers of this stencil. There are irregular breaks in the background patterning of the stencil. The stencil is of the koban size class (determined by the repeat length).
