More details

Katagami stencil with an all-over geometric pattern of kikko (hexagons) and Bishamon kikko (linked triple hexagons). The grid cells contain flowers including plum blossom and chrysanthemums, and smaller hexagonal grids. Kikko patterning is auspicious for longevity due to its resemblance to turtle shell, Bishamon kikko is also associated with protection because it resembles armour scales. The design has been created with small, shaped punches. This stencil is of the koban size class (determined by the repeat length).
