More details

Katagami stencil with an all-over horizontal design of amime (fish net, an auspicious motif) crossed by similar undulating perpendicular lines (tatewaku ). The combination of these two sets of patterning produce a design possibly known as tori dasuki (linked birds). Stylised flower heads or diffusing dot patterns are contained within the cells. The stencil was cut using an awl (kiribori technique). This stencil is of the koban size class (determined by the repeat length).
