This chinoiserie wallpaper was designed by George H Willis, probably for Allan, Cockshut & Co., in the mid 1920s. The . The use of gilt on wallpapers in the mid 1920s was common as it enhanced the exotic effect. A romantic view of the orient was a feature of both wallpaper and textile designs of the period.
