More details
This is a wallpaper frieze with a design of stylised trees, flowers, sheaves of corn and leaves, on the banks of a stream. It was probably inspired by a late seventeenth century Flemish tapestry and the main colours are green, ochre, blue and orange, on a cream ground. The style would appear to be that of Harry Napper and the Silver Studio day book for the period 1891-1898 shows that design number 1687 was sold to Charles Knowles in November 1893 for five guineas.
