Catalogue of furnishings from William Wallace and Co.

This image shows a drawing room featured in a catalogue for William Wallace & Co, published in about 1895. This drawing room has many fashionable 19th century features. The tall, decorative fireplace is finished with an ornate overmantel. Screens are used to divide the living space. The walls are decorated using three patterned, complementary wallpapers and a large decorative carpet is laid out on the floorboards. The drawing room design also shows a ‘cosy corner’, which was a popular feature of late 19th century homes. Two high-backed settees placed at right angles created a space for relaxing alone or with family, and were often used as room dividers.
