More details

This chintz wallpaper design was created by Arthur Silver for the Silver Studio in about 1885. In the 1880s, walls were split into three areas that would be decorated using co-ordinated papers. This particular paper would have been suitable for a wallpaper filling, which would have decorated the space between the dado at the bottom of the wall and the frieze at the top. This design uses a large floral pattern and is typical of wallpapers popular with middle-class British consumers in the 1880s.
