More details

A design for a book cover by the Silver Studio for the publishers Blackie & Son Ltd. in 1897. The book is 'The Lost Dog' by Ascott R. Hope and the designer was possibly Harry Napper. The design incorporates an upper frieze of birds and a lower frieze of dogs with formalised leaf formations, in pale blue and orange/yellow, on a navy ground. Although it was initially believed that this design had not been used commercially by Blackie, it has recently been found to have been used for the cover of a book entitled 'Jock And His Friend' by Cora Langton. MoDA has this book in their collection (BADDA 4697).
