Artistic Japan was a periodical published from 1888 to 1891 in French, English, and German editions by Siegfried Bing, a Paris art dealer who did much to popularise the art of Japan in the West. A monthly illustrated journal of the arts and industries of Japan. Each volume focuses on a different theme, for example 'Animals in Japanese Art' or 'Japanese Pottery', and contains a review and history of that subject with accompanying illustrative plates. It is likely that Arthur Silver subscribed to this journal in order to use it as reference material for Silver Studio designs.
