More details

The Studio began as the idea of C. Lewis Hind but he was unable to edit the magazine himself and persuaded Gleeson White to do so. Subsequently it was to become the most important British magazine about fine and applied arts of its time, featuring articles expressing contemporary opinions on the significant artists, designers and craftsmen of the day. Arthur Silver's Gesso Panel appears in the 1894 edition. It is an invaluable research tool, especially for those lesser-known artists about whom little else is written. MoDA also has a range of Studio Year Books of Decorative Art, including 'Art in England during the Elizabethan and Stuart periods', 'Old English Country Cottages', 'Modern Design in Jewellery and Fans' to 'The Art-Revival in Austria', 'The Genius of J.M.W. Turner' and 'Old English Mezzotints'.
