More details
Founded by the wood engraver Ebenezer Landells and the writer Henry Mayhew, the illustrated weekly Punch magazine was first published on July 17, 1841. Its creators had gleaned inspiration from the satirical French daily Charivari. It was, and continues to be today, a political satirist magazine, including articles, cartoons and poetry. MoDA holds bound volumes of the years 1879, 1888, 1889, 1890 and 1891 and loose editions of 03/06/1946, 14/05/1945, 28/10/1946 and the almanack edition 01/11/1937.
