John Ruskin: the portrait of a prophet

The designer of this cover used a direct approach to creating his lithographic prints, drawing straight on to the lithographic stone. Through his free-hand technique, the artist Barnett Freedman created fresh, lively drawings full of texture and helped make the method popular in book design.
