Jackanapes is a patrotic children's tale about the orphaned son of a Waterloo cavalry officer. Juliana Horatia Ewing first published the story in 1879 in a magazine. In 1884 she released it as a book with illustrations by Randolph Caldecott. Ewing was an acclaimed children's book author and three of her stories were illustrated by Caldecott. This book is part of the reference collection of the graphic designer Charles Hasler.
