This is a children's tale written by the famous polymath of the early nineteenth century, John Ruskin. Ruskin published on topics ranging from architecture and social reform to geology and poetry. The King of the Golden River was based on a story told by John Ruskin to Euphemia ('Effie') Chalmers Gray, the twelve year old daughter of a family friend. Ruskin and Gray married several years later. This is the seventh edition of the book, which was first published in 1841. It has been illustrated by Richard Doyle. This publication is part of the reference collection of the graphic designer Charles Hasler.
