More details
This is a promotional leaflet for new flats being built Hendon in 1938. The flats look like houses from the outside, but they are actually groups of four and eight mansion flats, over two floors. The flats had landscaped grounds and their own entrances.
The leaflet mentions distances to public transport and amenities, the Ambassador cinema and the 'first-class shops' adjoining the station.
Although, pound for pound, a flat cost more than a house, upkeep for the flat and grounds was often organised for the owner through a service charge. Flats were also designed to be easier to look after - which was important, as live-in help was much harder to come by after the Second World War.
