By using a symmetrical layout and central arch on this cover, further emphasised by gold lettering and a vine leaf motif, the designer has referenced the style of ancient Greece in the late nineteenth century. The designer, Robert Anning Bell, has used these elements to recall the Classical architecture and set a tone of timelessness, elegance and beauty in the book.
