During the 1960s, young people became recognised as consumers for the first time. Furniture was designed to appeal to this new, younger market. Designers and manufacturers often equated youth with bright colours, resulting in bold furniture such as this. In the late 1960s, bold synthetic colours such as these also became popular among design-conscious consumers.
