John Alan designs

This image shows a page from an illustrated catalogue produced for London-based manufacturer John Alan in about 1975. In the 1970s, the kitchen was increasingly seen as a family room. As a result, British consumers wanted kitchens that were bigger and more decorative. In this kitchen, the natural pine wood used to make these cabinets ‘creates a country kitchen atmosphere’. Country kitchens such as this were popular in the 1970s because they created a nostalgic, wholesome look.
