Pattern book of dyes for cotton by Oswald Gunnell, c.1894.
Bound book containing various dyed samples which are accompanied by recipes using natural dyestuffs such as madder, cochineal, logwood, flavine and orchid, as well as chemical dyes like oxalic acid and Potassium ferricyanide.
Oswald Gunnell was Chairman and Managing Director of Messrs, Johnson Brothers (Dyers) Ltd., of Bootle Liverpool, who trained at the Yorkshire College.
