More details

A wallpaper sample featuring an embossed design of white stars on a silvery-blue ground. This paper was used to decorate either the ceilings or the walls of the front bedroom of a house in New Barnet in the late 1960s or early 1970s. MoDA's collections contain a number of other papers used to decorate the same house during the late 1960s and 1970s, as well as two pamphlets relating to two particular types of wallpaper used (see the object numbers BADDA4376-4390). Listen to the audio created for the Sonic Wallpaper Project commissioned by MoDA and realised by Dr Felicity Ford: https://soundcloud.com/modamuseum/05-badda-4380 To create this piece, willing interviewees were asked to respond to wallpaper in the MoDA collection and asked to share their responses. Felicity then went on to create field-recordings based on what people said about the wallpaper design. She then layered these recordings with the interview material relating to this design, expanding the fantasies of home decorating using the descriptive powers of sound! People responded to this wallpaper (accession no. BADDA 4380) with fantasies involving The Jetsons, 1950s cinema, pocorn, fireworks, snacks and celestial globes.
