More details

A Cubist, block printed linen furnishing textile designed by John Churton for the Silver Studio in 1934. The design features a geometric design of checks, squares, small trellis and stylied flower forms, in orange, yellow, blue, shades of brown and black. The original design for this was produced without the stylised flower forms, they were probably added later by the manufacturer. The fact that a manufacturer was prepared to produce an expensive textile like this one with a Cubist design is indicative of the growing middle-class interest in modern design during the 1930s.
