More details
For the cover of this book, artist John Piper modernises and re-sees traditional motifs. The urn, the horse and boy, and the architectural pediment are all classical motifs which have been presented in a new light by the textural techniques Piper has used. The brass-rubbing effect on the cover and choice of muted, muddy colours sets this otherwise classical cover firmly in the tradition of 1940s art and design.
