Stabat Mater, or the Sorrowful Mother, is music based on the 13th century Latin hymn of the same name that was composed by an Italian Friar, Jacopane de Todi and based on the suffering of the Virgin Mary at the crucifixion. Dvorak, a Czech composer, wrote the music after losing his own children.
