More details
This fabric was used to make curtains in a London family’s home in about 1955. The dazzling yellow material features a simple woven pattern of vertical black, red and white lines.
The donor’s family home during the 1950s was in Whetstone in North London. These curtains were hung in the breakfast room, which was decorated using black wallpaper with a diagonal pattern of gold diamond shapes. The vibrant colour of this fabric would have contrasted strongly with the dark walls.
The fabric may have been purchased locally, possibly at shops in Finchley or Wood Green.
