This is a guide to the Festival of Britain, which took place in London in 1951. The Festival of Britain was a celebration of rejuvenation in post-war Britain. It aimed to give British people a feeling that they were recovering from the devastation and austerity of the Second World War, and promoted good design for British homes. Key designers of the 1950s such as Lucienne and Robin Day exhibited their designs at the festival. Products featured throughout the festival used bold, bright colours and stylised, abstract patterns that provided inspiration for the styles that have come to define the decade.
