Gemma Leader: Silver Studio Grasspapers (2020)

MoDA’s Collections Assistant Gemma Leader was recently interviewed by Middlesex University TV Production students. The focus of the interview was MoDA’s collection of late nineteenth century grasspaper stencils, produced by the Silver Studio in the 1890s.

In the video, Gemma talks about how grasspapers are made, and the inspiration behind Arthur Silver’s innovative stencilling technique. She also touches on the vital conservation processes that were carried out to ensure that these important grasspapers can be accessed by museum staff, researchers, students, and the public.

This project enabled the students to work effectively together as a team, creating a video for a ‘real life’ client. We were impressed by their professionalism and enthusiasm, and think they did a fantastic job working with us to fulfil our brief.
