1950s Design & Aspiration at Compton Verney (2016)
In 2016 we lent seven items to an exhibition at Compton Verney in Warwickshire. These included two photographs of interiors of the period, a swatch of contemporary paint colours, and several trade catalogues of furnishings and interior design.
The exhibition explored the ways in which 1950s consumers were sold an aspirational lifestyle after the deprivations of the Second World War.
It was great to see items from our collections providing some context for the exciting 1950s room settings constructed by Compton Verney’s curatorial staff for the exhibition.
